LEED for Homes Self Scoring Tool
BuildingGreen.com and the U.S. Green Building Council asked us to create an online scenario calculator called the LEED for Homes Self Scoring Tool that lets builders and architects test drive LEED for Homes. The site offers a simple set of forms that a builder can fill out in under a few minutes to help determine how compliant their projects might be within the LEED for Homes system.
After collecting some initial data, the application returns an estimated LEED score and offers a detailed list of next steps that can be taken to improve a project's certification.
A key design challenge was presenting a LEED for Homes certification score within a range of possible outcomes. We came up with a "fuzzy" indicator that gives an architect a rough guess of how their project might be scored by a real world LEED certifier.

Diving into the Details
Once a builder gets a "quick-score" estimate of their project, they can dive into more details by filling out individual "credit-by-credit" categories for their Innovation & Design Process or Water Efficiency, etc. The detailed credit-by-credit view offers a more accurate score as well as access to all of the LEED for Homes scoring categories. We worked closely with USGBC to create a design system that is flexible enough to work well with all the LEED credit categories and will adapt to new LEED requirements in 2012.
